Drunk Salsa
with Tequila
In the Mexican recipe book there are many variations of the drunk salsa. The drunk salsa with tequila, although it is the least spicy of all, it has a medium hotness level and it offers an elaborated flavor, some sweet notes and the unmistakable aroma of the famous agave distillate .
This salsa results excellent for accompanying a good beef cut or even a succulent grilled fish since the tequila’s flavor opens a world of flavors. The drunk salsa with tequila provides that point of flavor to any of these dishes and it will convert them into a feast .
About the Recipe
- In this recipe you have to work a bit but all the steps are easy.
- Our star ingredient is the tequila, we recommend using a good tequila – your salsa will appreciate it.
- In fact any type of tequila can be used: white, rested, aged, etc.
- Since a good quality tequila is going to be used also use a good quality oil with the extra virgin olive oil so your salsa will have the best flavor.
- In about the salsa will be ready.
- The recipe yields 1 cup.

Roast and Blend- Remove the veins and the seeds of 3 pasilla peppers.
- Put on a griddle over medium heat the 3 pasilla peppers with the ones you worked and roast them for about 4 minutes, until all their sides are moderately roasted; move them regularly with some tongs.
- Transfer from the griddle to a blender, with the tongs, the pasilla peppers that were roasted.
- Also add in the blender:
- The juice of 1 Orange.
- 1 Garlic clove.
- Blend very well the ingredients.
- Pour in a bowl the mixture that was blended and reserve.
- Dice 2.6 oz of panela cheese, upon completion put them in the bowl and reserve.
If you are not going to enjoy the drunk salsa with tequila at the end of the preparation don’t add the panela cheese. In this way the salsa will last longer in the refrigerator and when the moment comes of tasting it add the panela cheese. |
- Finely chop 1/2 onion and pass it to the bowl.
- Also add in the bowl:
- 1/4 cup of Tequila.
- 1 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
- 1/2 tablespoon of Salt.
- Mix very well the drunk salsa with tequila with a mixing spatula.
